How to use the Sancti Petri Info directory
Please read this, it's really useful!
We took some effort to design the use of this portal as simple and comfortable as possible. Nevertheless it is impossible to present everything in a self-explanatory way. That is because of the wide range of possibilities, the heterogeneity of users and the complexity of the tecnology. So for a lot of basic things you won't need any help. But to really use this portal to full capacity you should spend some minutes on reading the following:
- Technical requirements
- How to find information
- The maps
- The languages
- Place entries/advertisements
1. Technical requirements
To be able to use this web site it is necessary that your browser supports javascript and that you have it enabled. In addition, if you wish to register to place your own entries, you will need to accept cookies. Generally this web site works with any kind of browser. However, with the use of the maps, things are a little different: there we are working with Google maps and those at the moment support Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, Firefox 2.0 or higher as well as Safari 3.1 or higher. Also the use of the maps requires increased performance of your computer and your internet connection. For this reason, in the maps section an equipment more or less modern will be convenient.
We also offer a version of this portal for cell phones and PDAs, that is especially adapted to the needs of mobile devices. So, this way you've got all the information from Sancti Petri Info at our disposal, wherever you are.
2. How to find information
Sancti Petri Info offers you some thematic pages that can be accessed by the menus above and on the left. However the core function of the system is our directory. The information in this directory is arranged by hierarchical categories where you can find an entry in several categories. Whenever you search something you've got four options:
-
Enter a search term in the above text box and click 'Search'.
If any result is found you will see the correspondent categories in the upper area and below the entries that contain the word searched.
-
Click on one of the letters in the above section to find categories and entries that begin with the chosen letter.
-
You may search by categories. Click on one of the categories from the list and you will see the subordinate categories as well as the list of directory entries below. This list contains the entries in the selected category and in all the sub categories. While there are sub categories you may keep clicking them, and like this filter the results more and more to the most detailed.
-
In the right area of every page you find the featured content as well as the most actual events. This offers quick access to emphasized information.
Once discovered interesting entries, the result list shows a brief summary of every entry with its title, short description and contact data (if available).
By clicking on the title a small windows will open with detailed information. You may change the size of this window dragging its lower right corner. You may open several of those detail windows and move them around on your screen. This facilitates comparison of several entries. Also it is possible to step through those windows using the arrow keys. To do so, first open one detail window (there have to be several results to use this function).
Whenever we possess geographical data or the homepage direction of an entry, the correspondent links appear both in the result list and with the details to open the map, the detailed plan or the web site.
Furthermore, in our sitemap you can find the complete overview of Sancti Petri Info and its directory.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It goes without saying that we do everything to provide accurate information. Nevertheless errors always are possible, as regards content as well as technology. Therefore Sancti Petri Info and SurWebs as author and operator do not assume responsibility for possible errors of any kind on this web site.
3. The maps
Sancti Petri Info offers the possibility to localize found entries like hotels, restaurants, shops etc. This works with two types of maps: geographic maps that are generated programmatically using Google maps technology on the one hand and detailed plans on the other. The latter expose in detail an area whose entry density is too high for Google maps resolution. This may be the case, for example, with commercial centers.
Whenever we possess geographical data of an entry, a link appears to open the map. There's where you can see the situation of the shop, the golf course the place of interest etc. Within the maps window you've got some more options:
-
The appearance and the functions of the maps depend on the language. That means that if you open a map from the english version of Sancti Petri Info it will adapt itself. The Google map data also may vary respectively. However, at the moment all data are from 2008 and therefore absolutely up-to-date.
-
You may navigate through the map, that means zoom in and out or change the visible detail. Just use the navigation control on the left or your mouse. For example you can click on the map and drag it to change the visible section. If you have a scrolling mouse you can zoom in and out with the scroll wheel.
-
With the buttons on the top right you may switch the type of view: map, satellite or mixed. (Note: Google map views sometimes do not exactly match each other. In case of doubt, the satellite view is the more exact.)
-
Click on the blue symbol of the entry to see the details. Within the opening info window there are two further links: 'Route to here' and 'Route from here'. These provide directions. Initially the point of departure of the direction 'to here' always is Novo Sancti Petri. Later you may change that by clicking 'Back' which changes departure and destination points and calculates the way back. Every entry in the direction list is clickable and shows you the selected sector on the map. With the direction 'from here' you will get the route to any location. To use this option please refer to the hints that appear when you have clicked that link.
-
Seach within the map: using the text box and button 'Search' below the map you may search other locations and localize them on the map. This search will be performed at the same time in Sancti Petri Info directory and in Google. Click on one of the entries in the result list to visualize that location on the map.
Hints for searching: If you don't find what you are searching on the fly, try searching something like 'plaza san francisco, sevilla, es'. If you combine the search and the directions you can determine, for example, how to get to Ronda or to the Alhambra of Granada.
-
After using search or directions functions you may need to adapt the window size dragging the lower right corner.
-
By the way: information on the different functions you also get by just moving the mouse over one of the symbols without clicking (ToolTips).
4. The languages
At the moment Sancti Petri Info is published in three languages: Spanish, English and German. Clicking on one of the flags on the top right you may switch to another language at any time. Like this you will be taken directly to the correspondent translation. For example, if you were viewing the entries of a specific category, you will be directed to the same category in the selected language. Only exception is the search: here the entered search term will be lost.
The entries itselfs do not need to be translated in any case. If a translation does not exist (because the author neither provided it nor asked us to translate), the entry appears in the original language.
